Today, Thursday, January 28 is Bell Let’s Talk Day.

This day was created in 2010 as a way to raise awareness and acceptance around mental health. Bell Let’s Talk is focused on engaging Canadians to take action to create positive change in mental health.

The day of action is built on 4 key pillars:

♥️ Fighting the Stigma

♥️ Improving Access to Care

♥️ Supporting World-Class Research

♥️ Leading by Example in Workplace Mental Health.

1️⃣ IN 5️⃣ Canadians will suffer from mental illness at some point in their lifetime. One of the biggest hurdles for anyone suffering from mental illness is overcoming the stigma. It is the number one reason why TWO-THIRDS of those living with a mental illness do not seek help.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the practice of physical distancing has impacted many people’s mental health this past year tremendously.

It is very important to find ways to stay emotionally connected with others and practice self-care. Some suggestions include:

• Schedule a virtual lunch date with a friend

• Join a virtual book club

• Volunteer for a cause that is important to you

• Be smart with your social media and fill it with positivity

• Write a letter (yes, people still do that!)

• Share a hobby with a friend virtually

Most importantly, REACH OUT!! Whether from friends, colleagues, family or a licensed therapist. There is support available to you!
